Course Overview

Enjoyed our Pandas Public Speaking course, and interested in learning more about public speaking? Our Polar Bears Public Speaking course is perfect program for you!

This workshop changes every holidays, which allows students to practice and develop their public speaking skills in a much wider range of different arenas. Each holiday we will choose a different focus, from academic English speeches to mock trials, and will provide a two day course that delves into that topic.

Our Summer Holiday Focus – Impromptu Speeches

In April 2019, we will be providing a two day course that focuses on impromptu speeches.

Whilst touched upon in all of our courses, impromptu speaking is a separate skill to the prepared speeches that most students learn. Rather than giving students the opportunity to consider their topic before spending time preparing their speeches, impromptu speaking gives students only a few minutes (if any time at all) to give a talk on a randomly allocated topic.

Learning to think on your feet and speak with confidence under pressure is an invaluable skill that will benefit students in school, work and social life.

Experience Levels

Our Polar Bears Public Speaking course is a continuers program.

It is designed for students with a reasonable level of public speaking experience, whether that be participating in our Pandas public speaking course, or having formally been taught public speaking at school.

If your child doesn’t have much experience, we would recommend they undertake our Pandas Public Speaking course. If in doubt, please get in touch and we’d be more than happy to discuss which course is most appropriate for your child!

Main Objectives

This course seeks to assist students in presenting impromptu speeches by:

  • teaching strategies that allow students to present speeches with minimal preparation time;
  • detailing potential structures that students can use to help develop impromptu speeches in a pinch; and
  • providing students with various opportunities to present to the group and receive individualised feedback.

Should I repeat the Polar Bears Public Speaking program?

The Polar Bears Public Speaking program is designed so it can be completed again and again.

We change the Polar Bears Public Speaking program each holiday to ensure that students have the best possible opportunity to develop their speaking skills in new and novel environments. We have a range of different programs, and don’t offer any of them more than once a year.

As such, students will gain some new insights and skills every time they undertake this course!
