Course Overview

Enjoyed our Foundations of Public Speaking course (or Public Speaking Pandas course), and interested in learning more about public speaking? Our Experienced Public Speaking course is perfect program for you!

This workshop changes every holidays, which allows students to practice and develop their public speaking skills in a much wider range of different arenas. Each holiday we will choose a different focus, from academic English speeches to mock trials, and will provide a two day course that delves into that topic.

Our Summer Holiday Focus – English Speeches & Textual Analysis

In Summer 2020, we will be providing a two day program that focuses on how to prepare speeches that analyse English texts.

The current English syllabus in NSW, the development of strong public speaking and presentation skills both feature as key objectives for every stage.  However, as students grow up, the nature of those presentations change – starting with storytelling, continuing onto persuasive speeches (which are the focus of our Foundations of Public Speaking course), and then towards textual analysis speeches, which involve the interpretation and analysis of various types of English text.

This program provides an introduction on how to go about preparing and presenting textual analysis speeches, starting with simple texts and then moving onto more complex ones.  As with all our programs, students will also get a wide range of opportunities to practice and receive feedback to help them develop into more confident public speakers!

Experience Levels

Our Experienced Public Speaking course is a continuers program for High School students.

It is designed for students with a reasonable level of public speaking experience, whether that be participating in our Experienced Public Speaking course (formerly Public Speaking Pandas), or having formally been taught public speaking at school.

If your child doesn’t have much experience, we would recommend they undertake our Foundations of Public Speaking course. If in doubt, please get in touch and we’d be more than happy to discuss which course is most appropriate for your child!

Main Objectives

As part of this program, students will:

  • write and refine a speech over the course of the program, with a focus on developing their speaking manner between speeches;
  • use iterative learning and feedback loops in order to improve the way they present speeches; and
  • participate in a number of impromptu speaking activities that will help them develop their presentation skills under pressure.

Should I repeat the Experienced Public Speaking program?

The Experienced Public Speaking program is designed so it can be completed again and again.

We change the Experienced Public Speaking program each holiday to ensure that students have the best possible opportunity to develop their speaking skills in new and novel environments. We have a range of different programs, and don’t offer any of them more than once a year.

As such, students will gain some new insights and skills every time they undertake this course!
