Course Overview

Enjoyed our Hummingbirds Public Speaking course, and interested in learning more about public speaking? Our Hawks Public Speaking course is perfect program for you!

This workshop changes every holidays, which allows students to practice and develop their public speaking skills in a much wider range of different arenas. Each holiday we will choose a different focus, from academic English speeches to mock trials, and will provide a two day course that delves into that topic.

Our July Holiday Focus – Mock Trial

In July 2019, we will be providing a two day course that introduces students to the legal world through Mock Trials.

The modern court room, with its barristers, objections and evidence, is somewhat of an enigma to the average school student despite it making up one of the three branches of the Australian Government.  Our Mock Trial course seeks to dispel the myths perpetuated by the Boston Legal type shows, and show students what it is really like to practice as a lawyer in an Australian court room, all the while providing students with the opportunity to role play the different characters that are necessary to keep the justice system running.

This program gives students the opportunity to take on a range of roles in a mock courtroom, and teaches them public speaking from a new and novel perspective.

Experience Levels

Our Hawks Public Speaking course is a continuers program.

It is designed for students with a reasonable level of public speaking experience, whether that be participating in our Hummingbirds public speaking course, or having formally been taught public speaking at school.

If your child doesn’t have much experience, we would recommend they undertake our Hummingbirds Public Speaking course. If in doubt, please get in touch and we’d be more than happy to discuss which course is most appropriate for your child!

Main Objectives

As part of this program, students will:

  • be shown the elements of the Australian legal system, and in particular the justice system;
  • learn what the different roles are in the court room, and how they interact; and
  • have the opportunity to take on those roles and participate in a mock trial of their own.

Should I repeat the Hawks Public Speaking program?

The Hawks Public Speaking program is designed so it can be completed again and again.

We change the Hawks Public Speaking program each holiday to ensure that students have the best possible opportunity to develop their speaking skills in new and novel environments. We have a range of different programs, and don’t offer any of them more than once a year.

As such, students will gain some new insights and skills every time they undertake this course!
