What Our Melbourne Parents & Students Say
My daughter loves the debating program very much. Sometimes if there was traffic on the road, she would be very upset as she didn’t want to miss any minute of the class.
My son enjoyed the public speaking class and looking forward for next debate / public speaking class. Please keep me informed.
It is my 7yo first time having a speech and presentation program. She has developed so much on her pubic speaking skills in a short period of time. The coaches are also super responsive and tried their best to work with each child. Highly recommended!
Thank you so much for Belinda and coach May’s help. My son’s debating team won again in the DAV competition. Also, that was my son’s third time got best speaker. We will defintely continue our program with Speaking School in next term.
I attended the debating holiday program workshops and enjoyed it so much that I joined the weekly classes as well. The coaches are very friendly, encouraging, patient and they taught me so much. The holiday program has really helped me be more confident in my debating and public speaking skills and is a great way for people of all different speaking abilities to develop and hone their techniques. I highly recommend the holiday program for anyone looking to progress in debating, and for those looking to excel, the weekly classes are great also.
I have seen a remarkable transformation in my son’s confidence since joining Speaking School’s program. He used to feel shy speaking in front of others, but now he approaches every presentation with enthusiasm and poise. The lessons are engaging, supportive, and tailored to bring out the best in each child. I’m truly grateful for how the course has empowered him, not just in speaking, but in believing in himself.

Find a Melbourne ClassFrequently Asked Questions
Which Melbourne suburbs do you run public speaking classes in?
Our Melbourne programs currently run in the Eastern Suburbs, with our main campus located in Box Hill. We're actively expanding across Melbourne and regularly add new venues in areas where families express interest. Get in touch with our Melbourne team to find out about upcoming locations near you.
What ages can join your Melbourne programs?
We welcome students from Prep through to Year 10. Younger children (Prep to Year 2) focus on foundational presentation skills and building comfort speaking aloud, while older students tackle more advanced public speaking techniques and competitive debating formats.
How do Melbourne term programs work?
Our Melbourne term classes meet once weekly for the duration of the Victorian school term. Each session builds on the previous one, giving students time to practise new skills at home and in school between lessons. By term's end, students present to parents to showcase their progress.
When do you run holiday workshops in Melbourne?
We offer intensive workshops during Victorian school holidays – typically running over two or three consecutive days. These condensed programs are ideal for families who prefer a focused burst of learning, or for students wanting to try public speaking before committing to a full term.
Can my child try a class before enrolling in Melbourne?
Absolutely. We want families to feel confident before signing up. Reach out to our Melbourne team at melbourne@speakingschools.com.au to discuss trial options at your nearest venue.
Who teaches the Melbourne classes?
Our Melbourne coaching team includes university students and graduates with strong backgrounds in competitive debating and public speaking. Every coach completes our in-house training program, holds a current Working With Children Check, and receives ongoing professional development throughout the year.
How does public speaking help with school performance?
Students who can articulate their ideas clearly tend to perform better in oral presentations, class discussions, and even written assignments. The critical thinking skills developed through debating also support subjects like English, Humanities, and Science where building and defending arguments is essential.
What skills will my child actually learn?
Our curriculum changes from term to term and holiday to holiday, ensuring that things are kept fresh and students are always able to learn something new. Programs typically cover things like speech structure and organisation, vocal projection and pacing, confident body language, thinking on your feet during impromptu tasks, and – for older students – formal debating techniques including rebuttal and case construction.
My child is very quiet – will they cope in your classes?
Many of our most successful students started out reluctant to speak in front of others. Our coaches are trained to create a supportive atmosphere where every child can participate at their own comfort level. We celebrate small wins and build confidence gradually rather than pushing students into the spotlight before they're ready.
How big are the Melbourne classes?
We cap our classes at around nine students per coach. This ensures everyone gets multiple opportunities to speak during each session and receives individual feedback tailored to their development areas.
