Book in quick before our April School Holiday programs sell out!
This workshop seeks to provide students with various crucial skills they need to succeed in their next presentation (and life in general). Using the Tabby Cats workshop as a foundation, the Tigers program uses a mix of experiential learning and speaking games to help students both deepen their understanding of public speaking as well as develop their confidence in presenting to audiences.
Placing student-centred learning at its heart, this program changes from holiday to holiday, allowing students to practice and develop a much more comprehensive range of presentation skills that they can use whenever they deliver presentations at school. In particular, students will cover the following in 2024:
Each of these takes a deep dive into the selected topic, allowing students to develop their skills in a different way each and every holiday. Importantly, given that most students in this age group have not developed abstract thought, all sessions have a strong emphasis on activities and ‘learning by doing’.
As with all of our presentation skills training courses, we also ensure that classes are kept small, so students are nurtured in a safe and welcoming environment where they feel comfortable expressing themselves and developing their communication skills.
More Information
The most common reasons we present to audiences is so that they can be convinced to do something differently, entertained by your performance or informed about something they didn’t already know.
Over the April holidays, we’ll be taking a deep dive into the third of these purposes through the lens of Informative Speeches – what do we want to achieve through an informative presentation? What should we include in our speech? How do we tailor our presentations when we want to inform our audiences about different things?
Each of these questions and more are answered in this highly engaging and activity-based program, perfect for students with some experience who would like to develop their speaking skills even further!
Our Presentation Skills Tigers workshop is a mixed-experience program.
There are three groups of students who would benefit from undertaking the Presentation Skills Tigers program:
If you’re not sure whether your child fits into any of these categories, please get in touch and we can chat about your circumstances!
Alternatively, please check out our video below to see how our holiday workshops function!
After completing the Informative Speeches workshop, students should:
understand the essentials of informative speeches;
have been exposed to a range of different explanatory and informative speech styles that come up in day-to-day life; and
have been given multiple opportunities to present to their class every session.
Revision of Fundamental Concepts
The program starts with a succinct (but necessary) revision of the essential concepts covered in our beginner-level programs, including audience engagement and speech structure. This helps set students up for the rest of the program and ensures that everyone starts on a similar level.
Looking at Descriptive Speeches
After going through the basics, the next couple of sessions look at simple descriptive speeches and how students can make them more engaging – both by using more interesting language and by making them flow in a logical manner. Students will also participate in a range of activities that help them put these skills into practice.
Developing Informative Presentations
The remainder of the program takes students through a range of different informative speeches, starting out with news reports before continuing onto documentary-style speeches and creating, explaining & implementing clear game instructions. Each of these sessions includes multiple chances to practice, allowing students to apply what they’ve learned in a range of novel and exciting ways!
Our classes vary in size every holiday depending on how many bookings we receive – however, the maximum size of our Presentation Skills Tigers class is 9 students with one coach, and 16 students with two coaches.
If there aren’t any spots left, it’s usually because we’ve hit capacity – please get in touch with us and we’ll see what we can do about either opening an extra class, fitting your child into the existing class, or putting you on a waitlist in case any students pull out!
After each workshop, students will get to keep:
We have great Kindy programs available for all students who aren’t yet in Year 1 – check out our Speaking Skills Bumblebees holiday workshop and Speaking Skills Butterflies weekly term program to learn more!
We strongly recommend waiting until Year 1 before enrolling in our Tabby Cats or Tigers holiday workshops, or our Leopards and Lions term programs.
All our Year 1 – 2 programs require students to be able to write at least simple sentences, as well as read their own handwriting and instructions on the board, which most Kindergarten students are unfortunately not able to do. This may lead to those students feeling inferior to the rest of the class, creating new fears around public speaking – the exact opposite of what we hope to achieve.
If you think that your child has sufficient reading and writing skills, we would be more than happy to talk it through with you – alternatively, we would also be more than happy to add you to our email list (see below) so we can let you know when bookings open when your child is old enough to join!
As a mixed-experience program, our Presentation Skills Tigers program is designed to be completed multiple times – with a different focus every holiday, there’s always something new for students to take away from the program!
However, if you’re looking for something more regular, you may want to give one of our term programs a try, such as Presentation Skills Leopards or Presentation Skill Lions, which will build on the skills learned during the holidays.
