9:30AM - 1:00PM
A mixed experience program set over four days (and eight sessions) for students in Years 3 – 4, who either are new to public speaking and want to build their confidence, or experienced and want to develop their ability further.Student to Teacher Ratio 8:1
Give students a strong introduction to persuasive speaking, including forming opinions and speech structure.
Allow students to participate in practice speeches every session to help build their confidence.
Provide students with plenty of feedback to help them develop as a speaker.
Speaking Camp Koalas Online is a mixed level program, ideal for both brand new students who want to develop their confidence, as well as those who have some experience and want to develop their speaking skills even further.
The program provides an introduction to the necessary concepts involved with public speaking, placing particular focus on persuasive speeches. It is a great way to help prepare students for the speaking tasks they will encounter in later primary school years and beyond!
As part of the program, students will be given the opportunity to present at least once every session in a fun and supportive environment. Our experienced and passionate coaches ensure that all lessons are interactive experiences that put student centred and experiential learning front and centre.
As with all our online programs, everything is taught live and in-person, and class sizes are kept small (a maximum of 8) so that each student can be provided with maximum support and attention, including plenty of individualised feedback from our experienced coaches.
We genuinely believe that whilst our online programs look and feel a little different, they are just as effective in helping students develop their speaking abilities.
Unlike most providers, we run all our online programs live in small classes – nothing is pre-recorded, and everything happens in real time. This means that coaches are able to adapt their teaching style to the class that they actually have, leading to the best possible learning outcomes for students.
Students are also given just as many opportunities to practice in front of an audience – whilst not physically present, students can still see all their peers’ faces on the computer screen, providing them with an audience that feels (and is) very real. This means that students are still able to apply the theory they learn, develop their confidence, and crucially receive indvidualised feedback in real time.
If you’re still not sure, check out our video on online programs or get in touch to learn more!
All of our online intensive programs run for eight sessions over four days, with each session being 1.5 hours long, and a good half an hour break between the two sessions.
So, for example, if the program was scheduled for 9:30am to 1:00pm each day, the first session that day would be from 9:30am to 11:00am, with a half an hour break before the second session between 11:30am and 1:00pm.
Students won’t be starting at the screen all day either – they will get a short break in the middle of each session, and will be encouraged to prepare their practice speeches (at least one every session) on paper, as they would in a physical classroom setting.
Our Speaking Camp Koalas Online course is a mixed level program.
Although no specific knowledge is required to undertake the program (so complete novices are very welcome to join) – the program structure is designed to also cater for experienced students, giving them plenty of attention and allowing them to develop their skills as well.
Keeping this in mind, the program is also appropriate for students who have already completed our Speaking Camp Koalas or Speaking Camp Kangaroos physical holiday programs. The Koalas Online course goes through a range of different skills, and uses a various different activities, meaning that students are able (and encouraged) to do this program, even if they’ve already completed our physical programs.
Please get in touch if you’d like to discuss what’s best for your child!
Over the course of the term, students will have the opportunity to:
Connecting with Audiences
The first two sessions focus on relationships. The program starts by creating strong relationships between the students, as well as the coach, in order to create a welcoming class atmosphere. Students are then taken through the importance of connecting with their audiences, and how speeches essentially represent a relationship between the speaker and those listening to the presentation.
Developing Speech Ideas
As students progress into the second day, they will look at how their own opinions can supply the bedrock of a good speech. Students will have various opportunities to share and justify their opinions as presentations to their peers, as well as receive plenty of individual feedback from their coaches to help them develop.
Forming Persuasive Speeches
From the fourth session, students will start learning how to put together persuasive speeches. Using the opinions they formed earlier in the program, they will learn how to form their justifications and reasons into arguments, and how to craft interesting introductions and strong conclusions that help frame their speech. Each session focuses on a different concept and includes multiple opportunities to present.
On the fourth day, students will finalise and give their final presentations to the class, and parents are invited to sit in and watch. This is a great opportunity for students to present to a fuller audience, which not only helps them develop their confidence, but also represents an opportunity to showcase what they’ve learned!
Our classes vary in size every term depending on how many bookings we receive – however, the maximum size of our Koalas Online class is around eight students with one coach.
If there aren’t any spots left, it’s usually because we’ve hit capacity – please get in touch with us and we’ll see what we can do about either opening an extra class, fitting your child into the existing class, or putting you on a waitlist in case any students pull out!
By the end of each program, students will have:
Whilst we do try to keep classes relatively small, we are only able to run classes where 4 or more registrations have been received.
I felt it was awesome. I asked him who helped to create that speech. He said noone. That simply shows he has grasped alot of content that was taught.
I personally felt his speech was constructive. And the way he spoke confidently was amazing, being his first proper 'public speech'. Well done!
My son received an award for a short speech he did returning back to school! Apparently his teacher said his speech and delivery of speech was excellent!
Thank you so much! Very happy with the outcome! Definitely would like for my son to return next holidays! :)
