Course Overview

Enjoyed our Hummingbirds Public Speaking course, and interested in learning more about public speaking? Our Hawks Public Speaking course is perfect program for you!

This workshop changes every holidays, which allows students to practice and develop their public speaking skills in a much wider range of different arenas. Each holiday we will choose a different focus, from impromptu speeches to mock trials, and will provide a two day course that delves into that topic.

Our Summer Holiday Focus – Academic English Speeches

In January 2019, we will be providing a two day course that focuses on academic English speeches.

Schools are increasingly requiring students to give speeches in class as part of their yearly assessments.  This program provides students with the tools they need to properly engage with these assessment tasks, primarily by showing students how they can use ‘textual analysis’ to better understand, interpret and analyse English texts.  This is an expansive topic which impacts upon both the written and spoken elements of the modern English school syllabus.

Experience Levels

Our Hawks Public Speaking course is a continuers program.

It is designed for students with a reasonable level of public speaking experience, whether that be participating in our Hummingbirds public speaking course, or having formally been taught public speaking at school.

If your child doesn’t have much experience, we would recommend they undertake our Hummingbirds Public Speaking course. If in doubt, please get in touch and we’d be more than happy to discuss which course is most appropriate for your child!

Main Objectives

This course seeks to assist students in preparing and presenting such academic English speeches by:

  • providing a foundation on which to select and accurately analyse appropriate English texts;
  • detailing how to structure a solid academic speech; and
  • providing students with various opportunities to present to the group and receive individualised feedback.

Should I repeat the Hawks Public Speaking program?

The Hawks Public Speaking program is designed so it can be completed again and again.

We change the Hawks Public Speaking program each holiday to ensure that students have the best possible opportunity to develop their speaking skills in new and novel environments. We have a range of different programs, and don’t offer any of them more than once a year.

As such, students will gain some new insights and skills every time they undertake this course!
