Bachelor of Science (Human Geography) with Honours, University of Wollongong

Mary is a bubbly and engaging coach, who connects with her students through a shared interest in the world and issues facing young people. She is an experienced public speaker who has a focus on advocacy. Her passion for activism has led Mary to many amazing experiences, including being selected as the Australian Delegate for the Ship for World Youth, a program surrounding international cooperation and leadership training. In particular, Mary is passionate about conservation, which she fosters through volunteering and mentoring for the Taronga Conservation Society. She is also the National Youth Leadership Coordinator for the Jane Goodall Institute Australia where she mentors young people in national conservation campaigns. This penchant for advocacy and her experience with leadership makes Mary a beloved coach and role model for many of her students.

Mary is currently undertaking a Bachelor of Science majoring in Human Geography with Honours at the University of Wollongong, where she is a Deans Scholar. She is a presence on the university debating circuit, being the Chief Adjudicator for competitions run by the University Wollongong in 2020. Her success as a debater on the university circuit is also admirable, representing her university at the Australiasian Women's Debating Championships in 2018, and the Australian Intervarsity Debating Championships in 2019. She has found success in competitions including being a novice grand finalist at UTS IV in 2018, ranking 13th best speaker at UNSW Open in 2020, and ranking 3rd best speaker and her team placing runner up at UBC Women's Debating Competition. She also works as an adjudicator for an exhaustive amount of competitions including CAS, ISDA and HICES, where she provides sound decisions and detailed feedback, as well as coaching debating at Sydney Boys High School.

Mary’s experience and expertise, combined with her leadership skills make her a highly valued member of the Speaking Schools team.
